Rigid Cervical Collar MSC07

The MSC07 rigid cervical collar is a moulded PVC shell with a perforated, ventilated body and a padded chin edge, supplied in four sizes from S to XL. It is the model for buyers who need more restriction than a foam collar gives, in a shell that stays cooler than a solid one. Like every collar we make, it is a support garment rather than a treatment: it changes the mechanical load on the neck by limiting movement.

Why Buyers Source This Collar from Medisolemates

Shenzhen Medisolemates has manufactured orthopaedic supports since 2010, supplying medical retailers, distributors and healthcare institutions. We are a manufacturer rather than a trading company, which makes a shell with perforations, padding and a vinyl cover practical to customise: all three are tooled and assembled on site.

What the MSC07 Rigid Cervical Collar Is

The collar is a hard neck brace built from two moulded PVC sections that meet at the front and close at the back with a hook-and-loop tab. The upper and lower edges are padded and finished in a vinyl leather cover, so the hard shell never sits directly on the jaw or the collarbone. The shell body is perforated across the front and sides.

Ventilation and sizing are what separate it from the other hard collar in our range: heat and moisture can escape, and it comes in S, M, L and XL where a soft collar usually stops at three.

Our Philadelphia-style cervical collar MSC01 covers the other need in this group, with rigid occipital and mandibular posts and a tracheotomy opening. Where the choice is between rigid and something softer, the foam cervical collar MSC06 sits in between with a removable support plate.

Two-Part Shell and How the Fit Is Adjusted

The shell is not one piece. Front and rear sections overlap along the sides, and the overlap sets the collar’s front height — the distance the chin sits above the collarbone. Sliding the sections relative to each other changes that height to match the wearer.

  • Fit the height first — set it so the chin rests on the padded edge rather than above or below it.
  • Then set the tension — the tab at the back closes the collar around the neck without compressing it.

A collar set too tall lifts the chin and tilts the head back, which is the opposite of what the collar is for. That is why the adjustment is the first thing to get right, and why a size run is worth stocking.

Why the Shell Is Ventilated

A rigid collar is worn against the neck for hours at a time, and a solid moulded shell traps heat and moisture exactly where that is least comfortable. Perforating the shell vents it. The holes sit across the front and side panels rather than along the padded edges, so ventilation does not come at the cost of the padding that keeps the shell off the skin.

Two consequences for buyers: air moving through the collar reduces the moisture that collects against the neck, which makes it easier to keep hygienic; and the perforations make the shell easier to wipe down and inspect, which matters in a clinic or a rental fleet where the same model is reused.

The trade-off is less flat surface for a printed logo. Where branding matters more than ventilation, talk to us at sampling stage about logo placement.

Sizing and Fitting

Four sizes, S to XL, plus the front-height adjustment built into the shell. A rigid collar is sized the same way a soft one is — from the point of the chin to the top of the sternum with the head level and looking straight ahead — but the tolerance for error is smaller, because a rigid shell cannot flex to follow the anatomy the way foam does.

For a distributor, the four-size run is the practical difference between this model and a universal-size rigid collar. It costs more to stock four sizes, but it fits a wider share of the adult population without a custom shell.

Where This Collar Sits in a Neck Brace Range

The collar models we mould split on one axis: how much movement the collar is meant to resist.

  • Mild to moderate, selectable — MSW06, a foam collar with a removable support plate.
  • High, ventilated and sized — this MSC07, in four sizes.
  • High, single universal size — MSC02, which uses a multi-position clip in one size that covers the range.
  • High, with airway access — MSC01, which carries a tracheotomy opening.

Hospital and DME ranges generally want the rigid models; pharmacy ranges lead with the soft ones.

How It Is Worn and Cared For

Set the front height first, then close the tab at the back. Check that the chin rests on the padded edge and that the lower edge sits on the collarbone rather than floating above it or pressing into the throat.

  • Cleaning — the PVC shell and vinyl cover wipe clean with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Nothing needs removing and nothing needs drying time, which is the practical advantage of a rigid collar over a textile one.
  • Inspection — check the padding edges and the perforated panels for cracks. A shell that has been dropped can crack at a perforation, and a cracked shell should not go back into service.

A neck collar is a support garment, not a treatment. It changes the mechanical load on the neck by limiting movement; it does not heal anything by itself. How much restriction a patient needs is a clinical decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a rigid cervical collar used for?

A rigid cervical collar restricts more head and neck movement than a foam collar, because the moulded shell does not flex. Buyers source it where a prescriber wants more than soft support; deciding that belongs to the clinician, not to the collar’s manufacturer.

Is a rigid cervical collar better than a soft one?

They do different jobs. A soft collar allows some movement and is light and comfortable; a rigid collar resists movement far more but is heavier and warmer. This model’s ventilated shell exists to reduce the discomfort that usually decides whether a rigid collar is tolerated.

How do you adjust a rigid cervical collar?

The shell comes in two overlapping parts. Sliding the front and rear sections relative to each other changes the collar’s front height, the distance the chin sits above the collarbone. Set that first, so the chin rests on the padded edge, then close the back tab to set the tension.

Can a rigid cervical collar be cleaned?

Yes, and more easily than a textile collar. The PVC shell and vinyl cover wipe clean with a damp cloth and a mild detergent, with nothing to remove or dry. Check the padding edges and perforated panels for cracks, and take a cracked shell out of service.

What is the minimum order quantity for wholesale rigid cervical collars?

500 pieces per model, with mixed orders accepted from 2000 pieces total across models. Samples are available before a bulk order and the cost is refunded against the first one.
